Before joining CFTRI, Sutapa Mukherji served as an assistant profesor at IIT-Kharagpur (1998-2002) and as assistant and associate professor at IIT-Kanpur (2002-2015). During her stay at IIT-Kanpur, she developed a strong interest in mathematical modelling of biological processes. Currently, one of her major interests lies in modelling of gene regulatory networks associated with bacterial stress response.
